Prevent Unauthorized Access: CWE-384 Session Fixation

There are other methods of attack that can be employed, such as DNS poisoning and network-based attacks. In these types of attacks, the perpetrator manipulates the user's request for a legitimate website in order to redirect them to a malicious site. Usually, network-based attacks require the attacker to physically be present on the victim's network or have control over a compromised machine within the network. This makes exploiting these attacks remotely more difficult; however, their importance should not be underestimated. Additionally, certain session management mechanisms, like the default implementation in Apache Tomcat, have less secure features. For instance, they may allow session identifiers that are typically stored in cookies to also be specified in the URL. This vulnerability enables attackers to send malicious URLs via email to force the victim to use a specific session identifier.
